Religious Input in Our Film

Religious Input

In our film, we would like to input religious symbols.
These are things such as the subtle suggestion of crosses in relation to the crucifix and the setting of select scenes in a churchyard/graveyard.

The powerful symbol of the crucifix will be used as it is a clear representation of religion.
In the scene in which Kyle and the Client first meet, which is the scene in where Kyle mugs and beats him, they are in a churchyard/graveyard. This setting has an overall stereotypical atmosphere surrounding it relating to death and overall connotations to mortality.
During this scene, as well as seriously maiming the Client, the Client rips off the crucifix necklace that Kyle has around his neck. This action is going to be very symbolic and is going to represent the fact that because of the beating Kyle gives is considered 'unholy', the Client ripping the necklace from Kyle's neck acts as a removal of all of Kyle's innocence and chance at being a 'god fearing man'. We decided to physically make the string for the necklace that Kyle would have made himself. This was to show that Kyle himself cares enough to create a makeshift chain to hang the crucifix with him all of the time. This is ironic as Kyle has gone out of his way to make the chain yet has also gone out of his way to take part in/commit a violent act that is seen as 'ungodly' and 'unchristian'.

In the confrontation scene at the end of the film, there will be a lamp shining on the Client. This light will act as a metaphor and suggest that the Client is almost a Godly figure to Kyle as Kyle's life hangs in the Client's hands as he now has the power and acts as an omnipotent being to Kyle.
The light between Kyle and the Client will act as a foreshadowing device in the film that will imply Kyle's death at the hands of the Client.

Kyle's Costume Decision: Update

 The Religious Necklace

During the film, Kyle frequently has flashbacks to a fight that occurred years ago when he was younger. The fight will involve The Client stealing this from around Kyle's neck as they fight. This beating is the fuel for The Client's revenge and this necklace brings Kyle back to The Client.

The chain/rope for the necklace is self made and we decided that it would be a good idea if we were to knot the rope to create the look of fake rosemary beads to create the ides that because they are fake, so are Kyle's religious beliefs.

We chose this cross as it shows that Kyle was a man of Christ and that what he did to The Client was purely an act of helplessness as he had nothing. The chain will be ripped from Kyle's neck as he is angrily beating The Client appallingly.

This box is the box that Kyle will deliver from address to address and the box that holds the necklace. The Client will allow Kyle to open the box to find his own necklace from a long long time ago. We made the box look overused and messy so that Kyle's character wouldn't think to open it if as it doesn't look wortjy of something you'd want to take a sneaky look at.

Filming Shots From 17/01/14

Today we to filmed some shots of the church where The Client and Kyle have the fight that initiates The Client's revenge. We wanted to involve really quick shots throughout the film so that the audience get a clear idea of who Kyle used to be and what his past drove him to do in desperation.

On this shot we are filming a grave stone to create an eerie atmosphere in the film.We wanted the shot to be at a high angle so that the writing on the grave stone was clear but the shot won't be long enough for the audience to read.

On the above pictures, we are filming various panning shots around the church to again, add to the film in various places. We wanted the dark and eerie shots of the church to allow the audience to feel almost creeped out.

Shooting Schedule for the 17/01/14

Tomorrow we thought it'd be a good idea, in the lesson, to film various shots of the church because we have a short lesson (1 hour and 10 minutes). These shots will be edited into the film at various times. I personally, think it'd be a good idea to incorporate them into the flashback fight scenes so that the audience get the idea that this was once a place where Kyle was a sane man but one act of desperation in this sacred place causes his life to change, for the worst.

We'll be filming in the churchyard.

Things we need to film:

  • Camera
  • Tripod

Kyle's Costume Inspiration

Kyle’s character:

Kyle plays a middle aged man who lives a homeless life out the streets of an urban city. Migrating down the country to find accomodation and a healthier lifestyle. Whilst delivering drugs for a dealer, he encounters a man he mugged in the street years ago who is seeking revenge.

We want to find a tramp look for Kyle's character here are some actors who play tramps.

Ian Beale. (Eastenders actor)
 + scruffy hat
 + long hair
 + Beard
 +old worn out clothes
 + saggy eye makeup

Ron Moody (Fagin from Oliver Twist)

The Client's Costume Inspiration Research

The Client's character:

The Client is an aggressive middle aged man seeking revenge from an violent mugging from included Kyle (Character A). After tracking Kyle down man years later we are left in suspense as The Client decides which form of revenge he should take.

I have envisioned The Client's costume design to be professional, similar to a working class business man. I looked online for films that had characters matching this description. Below are some examples displaying the look I hope we can achieve for the Client.

John Travolta                                                                                   Christian Bale

Characters such as John Travolta and Christian Bale both fit my desired character description. Note now both characters are wearing suits. I think this is appropriate for The Client as a suit suggests intelligence, maturity, but also evil.

Production Logo Analysis for 'Crucifix Productions'

This is our production logo for 'Crucifix Productions'. Although this logo was an original idea, I took inspiration from the traditional cross Jesus was hung. I also took inspiration from the symbolic yet suggestive hexagon shape.

I found that layering up the hexagon shape on top of one another not only gives the logo 3D depth, but also gives a professional look to it.

We took the decision not to include our production title 'Crucifix Productions' in our logo. We decided this because we felt the logo was more striking without text, additionally there was no place within the logo in which the text could be placed.

However, we have discussed a separate logo in which the text can be placed. Any updates on this idea I shall blog with visual ideas.

Title of the Film Will Need To Be Changed

We have decided that the name of the film 'The Client' will need to be changed. We decided this after sitting and having a consultation about the progress of the film. We realised that 'The Client' would be referring to the character, Kyle, rather than the other leading role in our film. As he is the man who is employing others to send Kyle on a run around delivering a parcel we realised that it would make much more sense if he was called 'The Employer' rather than 'The Client'. We still think that this is a secretive and anonymous as 'The Client' but it makes much more sense in the ladder of rankings. A client would be much lower in power than an employer would so that is the main reason we changed the name. We all agreed that it was for the best for our film.
